The first step in creating the great products from alpacas is to shear them!

Our shearing at the farm is typically the second or third Saturday of April. We love to have visitors during that time to help out or just watch.

For 2024, we are set for April 27. See our Facebook event page for all the details.

Typical shearing day schedule:

9:00 Shearer arrives and setup/Volunteers arrive for instructions
9:30 - 11:30 (approx) Shearing
12:00 (or after shearing) Break for lunch (provided for helpers)

What can you volunteer to help with?

                        • Animal Handling
                        • Gathering sheared fiber
                        • Sorting and skirting fiber
                        • Taking photos and/or video

On top of our gratitude, our volunteers can expect hot coffee/tea, water/juice/soda and breakfast/snacks during shearing time and a well-balanced lunch when done

Here are a couple of videos of past shearings to give you an idea of the process.
